Founder of Bachi-Ki-Do is the Berlin based German Grand Master Ralf Bartzsch 9.Doan (Prof. Dr. h.c. in Philosophy of Martial Arts).
Born in 1954 he has practised Asian Martial Arts from a very young age on. His interest was aroused by his uncle K. Kimura, a Hawaiian
with Japanese roots (he was in Germany as a GI in 1962 and practised the Okinawa style Karate) and his grandfather who followed ancient
Jiu Jitsu Martial Arts.
In 1967 Ralf Bartzsch started with Judo and changed to Karate during a time when Chinese Martial Arts weren't widely spread in Germany.
His teachers during this time where big names such as Sensei P. Pawels, Sensei J. Otremba and the unforgotten Georg Brückner.
In the early 1970s he met two Chinese students who agreed to teach him Kung Fu. Because of the organic and flowing dynamic style,
Kung Fu fascinated him right from t he beginning. Only later did he spend a year learning with master Eng Lok. Master Lee Hong Thay then
thought him the Ching-Mo Moon (Chin Wu) style for the next 12 years, often for several hours every day. Ching-Mo Moon is a synthesis of
different Chinese Martial Art styles of the Shanghai Athletic Association following Hwoh Yuan Chia. Lee Hong Thay learned this style from
his grandfather who in turn was a pupil of Hwoh Tung Ka (son of the founder Hwoh Yuan Chia). Later, Master Lee Hong Thay added the drunken
style to his teaching methods.
After completing his studies with Master Lee Hong Thay he studied many other Chinese Martial Arts during his
travels through the United States and Asia, such as Suai Chao (with Master David Lin) and Wah Lum (with Grand Master Chan Pui).
Bachi-Ki-Do has been developing slowly but surely since the beginning of the 80s. The basis for Bachi-Ki-dO are the 24 ancient Than Twe
(standard fight situations), Ching-Mo Moon.
Beginning in the early 70s G.M. Bartzsch started to work for the American Military Police (Mobile Strike Commandos).
After that he became the field expert and chief in charge of an investigative company in Frankfurt. In the early 80's he worked as a security advisor
and bodyguard for European and Arabian businesspeople. During this time he also founded his own security company.
As an instructor for Anti Terrorist Measures he spent a lot of time in training camps in the US, South and Central America and was a delegate for
the legendary "Mercenary Association" under Col Frank J. Camper. Since the 90s however, Bartzsch has been focusing his entire energy on spreading
Bachi-Ki-Do . His professional career enables him to make a realistic judgement in self defence situations.
