Master Raymond Cocatre (6. April 1923 - 11. April 1980).
During the 1950 when Muchizuki came to France he met a man named Jim Alcheik who become his best friend and
personal assistent and (he also came to meet the) president of Yoseikan Europe. Raymond Cocatre was one of
the students who had the highest grade in Yoseikan. He had also trained privately with other Masters in
various styles whom visited France. Jim Alcheik had a sudden death and Cocatre then helped Master Moshizuki.
When Master Mochizuki returned to Japan he selected his son to replace him in Yoseikan Europé.
After several confrontations on the technical level with Hiro Mochizuki, Raymond Cocatre decideds to leave
Yoseikan and start Ecole R. Cocatre Internationale de Bushido 1962. This style is based upon the footwork from
knife fencing which he was very good at. His knowledge in Savate (French boxing), Tai Jutsu, Thai boxing,
English Boxing and Shito Ryu Karate did help in forming this unusual way of moving.
Raymond Cocatre Continues
As a child Cocatre had an easy form of polio that he fought hard against. He then used athletics as a therapy
against his handicap.
With the background as a high ranked Athlete and his knowledge in Bu jutsu, he gave Master Raymond Cocatre the
impulse to break the oriental and traditional way of thinking in regards to movement and developing techniques.
The discipline that has the biggest focus with Cocatre is Ju Jutsu but he trained in Karate and Aikido as a
compliment. All three disciplines are linked together to be able to train them together or each one separately.
Ecole R. Cocatre Internationale de Bushido is today lead by Francoise Cocatre (widow of Raymond Cocatre).
