GrandMaster James McMurray,
8th Dan Moo Hap Sool Hapkido
Several national magazines have rated Master McMurray as one of the top weapons experts in the United States. (Karate Illustrated, Black Belt, Official Karate, Taekwondo Journal and Traditional Taekwondo).
He was trained by several celebrated masters of various arts, including:
- Mr. George Dillman in Isshinryu
- Mr. Michael Echanis Hwarangdo
- Mr. In Sun Seo in Kuk Sool/Hapkido
- Mr. Jimmie Brown and Ki Han Lee in Taekwondo/SooBahkDo
- Ms. Lorraine Lewis in Shorei-ryu
- Master Owen McDonald in Okinawa-Te and Weapons
- Judo/Jujitsu by O-Sensei Philip Porter
However, McMurray confesses that his love is for the inner power techniques of Hwarangdo and Hapkido called
NEI GONG, which concentrated on the art of advance mind control, especially that which directly affects the
very life force of the human and animal bodies. He has demonstrated portions of this technique by having
seemed to turn his body to hard metal as military vehicles roll across various parts of his body, metal
tipped target arrows that were pushed against his throat area, snap before piercing the skin and stone as
it explodes into pieces by his powerful blow.
Master McMurray continues to seek mastery of himself and his art through the knowledge of life and death
by way of acupressure and acupuncture techniques. Being a well know and admired instructor throughout the country,
McMurray can always be seen with a group of young, eager people gathered around him. His concern with today's
youth and the direction that they are heading is a high priority in his life.
From a deadly jungle-fighting warrior, to a successful tournament competitor, to a renowned martial arts
instructor and referee, Master McMurray has made that transformation ... a living example that there is a way
to Total Mental Control as he became the first Afro-American to be recognized and certified to the rank of
7th Degree by the World Kido Federation of Korea, the most prestigious Korean martial arts organization in the
world and by be appointed to the National Board of Directors for the United States Martial Arts Association.
James McMurray is the Founder and School Director of the House of Discipline Martial Arts Group. He has formulated
the United Taekwondo Military System and the Moo Hap Sool Hapkido Society, which is currently being taught across
the United States, West Germany and Panama. Master McMurray is an Ex-Special Forces / U.S. Ranger Combat Instructor.
Having served two consecutive tours in Vietnam and Southeast Asia with the 5th Special Forces Group at B-52 (CCC),
he is a qualified sniper and considered an expert in unarmed self-defense, unconventional warfare and
"Silent Sentry-Takeout" by use of pressure point techniques.
Master McMurray's martial arts' style has been termed one of the most effective hand-to-hand combat systems in the world.
He has trained elements of the North Carolina Highway Patrol, Fayetteville Police Department, West Germany Polizei,
Killeen Police Department, Bell County Law Enforcement and the U.S. Army Military Police in unarmed and "personal armed"
self defense as well as advance "suspect control" techniques. As an instructor since 1973, McMurray has trained over
12,000 United States soldiers and their family members in self-defense. The 1974 National Organization of Women (N.O.W.)
has used his knowledge and information as a basis to teach anti-rape/female abuse classes across the country.
