Shihan Gregory Collins is an internationally accredited Master Black Belt Instructor. He is the Head Instructor
and Founder of Canada Shindao Goju and is currently ranked as a Rokudan (6th degree Black Belt). He is a senior
grading board member with the Eastern Ontario Independent Karate Organization. He is also ranked as a Rokudan
within the World Elite Black Belt Society (W.E.B.B.S.). Shihan Collins is a member of Jukoshin Ryu Jiu Jitsu under
Soke Bryan Cheek, 10th degree Black Belt, from the United Kingdom.
Shihan Gregory Collins began his martial arts training upon entering the Canadian Armed Forces Reserve in September
of 1979. In March, 1981, he transferred to the Regular Armed Forces. He was trained in Unarmed Combat while he served
with the 2nd Special Service Force at C.F.B. Petawawa, as a Paratrooper and as an Airborne Medic.
He began training in Goju karate in 1984 when he was posted to CFB Borden, Ontario. When Shihan Collins moved to Lahr,
Germany in 1986, he had the pleasure of training with Renshi Steve Picotte. He later assumed the instructor position
of Renshi Picotte 's club when he returned to Canada. In 1988, he was recruited by Canadian Military Intelligence while
stationed in Lahr, West Germany. The Shihan speaks English, French, Mandarin Chinese, Russian, and German.
Shihan Collins holds a Sandan ranking (3rd degree black belt) in Canada Goju Ryu Karate, Nidan rankings (2nd degree
black belt) in USA Goju and US Army Goju, and a Shodan (1st degree black belt) in Meibukan karate. Shihan Gregory
is also formally trained in Yang style Tai Chi Chuan. From 1996 to 1999, while in China, Shihan Collins studied
under Yang style Tai Chi Chuan master Zhu Feng Wu. In July of 1999, the Beijing government awarded Shihan Collins
an instructor level in Yang style Tai Chi Chuan.
In December 2000, Shihan Collins unveiled a new martial art. He created this art from his years of experience.
This new art, Shindao Goju (New Path Goju) is a blend of the hard, external concepts from Goju Ryu karate and the soft,
internal elements from Yang style Tai Chi. The system has a very strong component of Dim Mak (Death Touch),
with influences from other systems such as Jiu Jitsu, Aikido, Muay Tai, and Judo. The Shihan has adapted all
of these elements into a very credible combat system.
Shihan Collins is currently the Head Instructor and Founder of the Canada Shindao Goju Association. He is the Chief
Instructor of the Canada Shindao Goju Uplands Dojo.
